A record crowd flocked to Flemington to cheer home Plastered in today's Group One AAMI Victoria Derby.

Some 115,542 people poured through the turnstiles to attend today's meeting - regarded by racing purists as the best day's racing in Australia.

This figure was well up on last year's Derby crowd of 97,059 - and easily ecliped the record Derby Day attendance of 101,898 in 2002.

Perfect weather greeted racegoers at Flemington today and the sunshine hung around all day until the last of nine races when the local Great is Great won the Yallambee Stud Stakes at Group Three level.

VRC officials are hoping they can go close to beating the Melbourne Cup Day record crowd of 122,736 set last year. Some showers are predicted at this early stage for Tuesday.
