Owner Lloyd Williams has decided against running Activation in the Group One Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday week.

Activation was a notable absentee for the Queensland Derby which attracted 31 first acceptors on Tuesday.

Williams said the three-year-old son of Zabeel would instead head to the paddock for a break before a spring campaign.

Activation impressed with a string of top performances in Melbourne before he failed in the Doomben Classic (1615m) at Doomben on May 21.

He then came out and scored a brilliant victory over Queensland Derby favourite Eremein in the Rough Habit Plate (2020m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Winning jockey Danny Nikolic was keen for Activation to press on to the Queensland Derby but Williams wants him to have a proper spell before campaigning with stablemate Perlin in the spring.

Perlin won the Doomben Cup (2200m) on Saturday.

Despite Activation's absence the Queensland Derby remains a strong race with Eremein, Willy Leica and Saxon all being paid up at the first acceptance stage.

A total of 28 horses were paid up as first acceptors for the Brisbane Cup (3200m) at Eagle Farm on June 13 while 24 horses were first acceptors for the TJ Smith (1600m) the same day.
