Mr B Purcell approached Stewards prior to the running of this race and advised that it had been established that Fine Sailing had been brought on-course in work shoes.  Due to the time constraints Fine Sailing was permitted to race with plates on both fore feet and bear behind.  After taking into account all the circumstances of this particular case, Mr Purcell was found to be in breach of the provisions of AR.175.(k)  and was fined the sum of $200.

After being loaded into its starting stall, Loco Caballo became fractious, reared and then became cast.  Loco Caballo was removed from the stall and examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon.  Subsequently, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Loco Caballo on veterinary advice at 12.21pm.  The incident resulted in a delay to the start of the race.  Stewards ordered the following deductions to betting; all monies bet for a win and place and concession betting on Loco Caballo to be refunded.  All successful bets on the horses prior to the time of withdrawal of Loco Caballo were subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 3 cents, place bets 4 cents, winning concession bets 3 cents and double bets 3 cents.  Acting on a report from the Club’s starter, Stewards notified Mr M Trotter, representing trainer Mr P Trotter, that Loco Caballo was now suspended from racing until it performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an organised trial, at which time a barrier test certificate must be obtained.

The start of this race was delayed slightly to avoid clashing with a thoroughbred event at the Gold Coast.

On jumping away, Society Barber shifted out abruptly and hampered Placidino, which also inconvenienced Marqueeta.

Race 3 – skills plus maiden plate - 1000 metres:

Co Use was presented in the mounting yard with blinkers, however, as the Stewards were not satisfied that application for the horse to wear blinkers had been made by the prescribed time, trainer Mr M Baird was advised that Co Use would race without blinkers.  Under the circumstances, Stewards did not take any further action.

The start of this race was delayed when Fortune And Glory became fractious in the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination, which subsequently found the gelding to be fit to race.  A further veterinary examination was carried out subsequent to the race and this revealed no abnormalities.

Fortune And Glory and Mighty Milo, which were both slow to begin, bumped shortly afterwards.

Rounding the home turn, The Boardroom had to be steadied when crowded between Bandforce (NZ) and Mighty Milo, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Mr R Laing, trainer of King Leo (NZ) was fined $50 for presenting the gelding to race in blinkers when blinkers is not part of its approved gear.

Soon after the start, Winkler (NZ) was checked when crowded for room between Ali Benbara, which had shifted in and Another Neptune, which had been taken out by Tarcoola Midnight as a result of Bird Dancer shifting out abruptly.

Near the 400m, Boy Canny Go had to be steadied when crowded for room between Zephyr Beat, which shifted out slightly when weakening and Captain Clipper which shifted in.

A veterinary examination was ordered of Zephyr Beat after the race after commencing to weaken leaving the 600m.  The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that Zephyr Beat was lame in the off foreleg.  Mr J Edwards, trainer of Zephyr Beat, was notified that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before the gelding races again.
