Egyptian, trained by
Rashed Bouresly and ridden by Peter Dillon, made all to win the feature
race, the Asprey Cup Challenge, at the Asprey-sponsored racemeeting at Nad
Al Sheba Racecourse on Thursday evening.
The six-year-old son
of Green Desert was soon ridden to the lead as the gates opened in the 1,500
metres event and was always in control, crossing the line nine lengths clear
of the Willie Supple-partnered Sleeping Weapon, with Mandobi in third and
the Brazilian challenger Documento Fiscal in fourth.
Dillon and Bouresly
took the final race of the evening with an easy win by Baldaquin in the
final race of the evening, the Asprey 167 Trophy over 2,000 metres.
Only three jockeys
visited the winner’s enclosure on Thursday evening with Supple winning the
first two races, Irish apprentice Rory Cleary claiming the next two races
with Dillon talking the final two races.
Bounty Quest gave
Supple the second leg of a double for the evening when landing the Purple
Water Cup for Thoroughbreds over 1,400 metres.
Japon, the mount of
Sherman Brown, made the early running with Bounty Quest taking the lead into
the straight and running on to a length and a quarter win from Maqadeer, the
mount of Dillon, with the Tadhg O’Shea-partnered Zalaal in third.
Cleary rode his first
winner in the UAE when partnering the Dhruba Selvaratnam-trained Morafij to
victory in the Asprey Cashmere Collection Race over 1,600 metres.
Morafij took the lead
200 metres from home, holding on to win by a neck from the fast challenging
Private Possession with O’Shea in the saddle.
It was a quick double
for the Selvaratnam-Cleary team with Almaram landing the fourth race, the
Asprey Keira Trophy over 1,300 metres. The son of A P Indy took the lead 200
metres out and ran on to a two length win from Waajeb and Flower State.
Quality Special,
trained in Brazil by Cosme Morgado, ran on well at the end to take fourth,
beaten just over five lengths.
Supple was aboard
Charh, an easy winner of the opening race, the Asprey Bond Street Challenge
for Purebred Arabians over 1,400 metres.
Red Zone, with
apprentice Ahmed Ajtebi in the saddle, set the early pace with the Ryan
Moore-partnered Quick Reply taking up the running 600 metres from home.
Charh, trained by Erwan Charpy, a winner at Nad Al Sheba’s opening meeting
two weeks ago, took the lead 200 metres out and ran on to a four length win.
