Braith Anasta has played rugby league for Australia and won a premiership with Canterbury and now he has experienced the adrenalin boost of owning a Randwick winner after Zago's victory.
It certainly didn't matter to Anasta that there were only six races on the program, he was only interested in one.
He is a first-time part-owner of the John O'Shea-trained mare who showed she was ready to live up to expectations with a comprehensive win in the Christmas At The Farm Hcp (2400m).
"I'm stoked, it's a super feeling," Anasta said.
"I've always wanted to own a horse and to win a race at Randwick is very special.
"It gets the adrenalin going."
O'Shea's instructions to Zac Purton were to take off if he found himself in any bother and that's exactly what he did, whipping around the field mid-race to turn for home around six lengths in front.
Zago was full of running and maintained her momentum to win by four lengths from Magic Pins with Gotti another 2-1/2 lengths third.
"I told Zac that if he was in any trouble to let her rip," O"Shea said.
"She's fit and ready to go and she can quicken and hold that tempo.
"The 2400 metres is what she needed and I think she can run two miles (3200m).
"She'll go on to the Summer Cup now."
The Group Three Summer Cup (2400m) is at Randwick on Boxing Day.
Zago is by supersire Zabeel and was her second win from 10 starts.
Although there has been much publicity over the past couple of days regarding the fact the meeting was reduced to six races with small fields, the quality was high.
