2009

Quality By Name, Quality By Nature

The sale still might be a month away but already the "good judges" are raving.

The colt in question is a son of Elusive Quality and the sale - the Malaysia Airlines Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Quality yearlings are making their money around the country and all those in "the know" are excited about the prospects of a colt described as the best in the catalogue.

On paper the colt in question, catalogued as lot number 505, comes as perhaps one of the best bred yearlings to be offered anywhere in Australia this year.

Prepared by Brookman Park for Walkerville based breeder David Peacock, the colt is from the outstanding Don't Say Halo producer Halo Again.

Halo Again was a class racehorse in her own right. She won three races as a two-year-old including the listed Queen Adelaide Stakes. She was placed in another four stakes events including one at group level.

But its her record as a star producer that Halo Again has really made her name. She is the dam of seven runners - seven winners - seven metropolitan winners - four stakes winners and one stakes placegetter! Not bad for a mare who's still under 20.

Her September 2004 foaling - a colt by Smarty Jones' sire Elusive Quality - promises to be her best yet.

Magic Millions' Adelaide manager Grant Burns says the colt will prove to be one of the stars of the sale.

"We have some top class yearlings to offer next month," Burns said. "And the Halo Again colt is right up near the top."

"I'm never one to predict sales toppers before an auction and before I see how the yearlings have developed since our last inspections, but it will take something special to beat him to the top spot."

"He really oozes quality. A cracking good sort. He's a lovely strong horse - good size and strength with lovely scope."

Last year David Peacock (and partners) topped the Adelaide Sale and broke the all time record when the Blue Diamond Stakes fancy Tipungwuti was knocked down for $330,000.

Peacock could well be back on top again in 2006. Another all time record price? Only time will tell.
