The win on Saturday by the very promising two-year-old Richard Beymer has taken his sire Volksraad to the lead on the NZ sires table. The Windsor Park based sire has dominated the sires championship for the last four seasons and is heading for an amazing fifth sire's premiership in a row.
Richard Beymer is also owned by Windsor Park Stud and is trained by Mark Walker. 'He's a horse with a lot of potential and has an exciting future,' said Walker. 'He has a lot of natural speed,' he said.
Richard Beymer is from the very good producing Star Way mare, Westside Story who record now stands at six foals to the races for six winners, including the Gr. 2 Eight Carat winner Natalie Wood.
The win was also good timing for his dam Westside Story, as she has a Montjeu yearling filly in the Windsor Park draft at the Sydney Easter Yearling Sales in April.
The next possible start for the juvenile could be at the Counties meeting at Avondale on March 22. 'If he should win again at Avondale then I will discuss with his owners the possibility of running him in the Manawatu Sires,' said Walker.
Volksraad ($1,105,691) currently leads the sires premiership from Pentire ($1,095,105) with Stravinsky ($887,415) in third spot. The Windsor Park based sire has dominated the sires championship for the last four seasons and is heading for an amazing fifth sire's premiership in a row.
