Volksraad Heading for Five Titles in a Row

Four-time champion sire Volksraad has regained the lead in the New Zealand general sires' premiership race after the weekend's racing. In doing so, Volksraad has established record progeny earnings for a stallion in a single season.

Volksraad had made significant inroads into Pentire's lead on the sires' table over the past month and following the weekends racing the Windsor Park Stud-based sire has overtaken Pentire who had created a considerable lead after the Auckland Racing Carnival in March.

Volksraad's progeny earnings to date this season stand at $1,517,967 while Pentire's progeny have earned $1,514,005.

His number of stakes winners in the current season is now 6, which is more than any other stallion has produced this season.

Volksraad also currently leads the all-time NZ General Sires' List with his progeny earnings of $8,195,927. In second position is Zabeel with progeny earnings in NZ of $8,058,206.

The last sire to win more than four consecutive New Zealand Champion sires titles was the legendary Foxbridge over 50 years ago.
