Victoria Park Race Report
South Australia saw an impressive horse in the making when the two- year-old Idalou won it's second race in a row at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Starting the $1-70 favourite in the opening event of the day Idalou led throughout the 1000 metre event to score a four and three quarter lengths win. A son of Northern Drake, the winner of five races, one of which was the Melbourne Racing Club's Yalumba Stakes and a second in the 1998 WS Cox Plate, Idalou is out of a Roi Danzig mare Gdansk Danzer the winner of two races.

Being under the care of Trevor Dansie and having the services of Jason Lyon, Idalou beat the Phillip Stokes prepared and Troy Baker ridden Not At Allordinary $3-20. A further three-quarters of a length away third was Countess Of Tiba $14 who is mentored by Leon Macdonald who had Peter Roff ride his charge.

Troy Baker brought up the first leg of a double when the Pat Barnes trained Wells Street won her fourth race in succession in the 2400 metre event.

Starting the public elect at $2-60 Wells Street led from the barrier stalls but was over taken by Jaz Bree when the runners left the straight for the first time.

After sitting behind Jaz Bree for part of the journey Wells Street regained the lead mid way through the race and scored a nose victory.

In winning the third event of the day Wells Street beat the Mick Price trained and Matthew Gatt ridden Danaurum $4-20 with a half head away filling the minor placing being the Len Smith trained and Scott Leckey ridden Above All $6-50.

Troy Baker brought up the second leg of his double in the 1650 metre sixth race of the day when Surround Glory was a one-length winner.

Starting at $17 and trained by Gordon Richards Surround Glory was not sighted in the early and middle stages but came with a strong run on the outside in the straight to gain a one length win.

The John Macmillan prepared and Matthew Gatt ridden Ramanikov $8-50 ran second with a further one and a quarter lengths away third being the Dennis O'Leary trained and Kayla Stra piloted Kid Dapper $6 who was always in contention.

The combination of David Hayes and Paul Gatt was successful in winning the 1450 metre second race of the day with Growl. Growl made it two wins in as many races when he scored by a short neck. The three-year-old came from the middle of the field to run down the Lloyd Kennewell trained and Matthew Neilson ridden Tenshi. The Roslyn Day trained Peter Roff mount Road Worker $2-30 was placed third.

Gawler based mentor Trevor Simounds was well pleased with his charge Hezabout $8 in the fourth race of the day which was contested over 1600 metres. Having the services of David Tootell Hezabout was well back in the early stages of the race with the leader being the Victorian visitor Bella's Bro who led the field into the straight but weakened to finish fourth.

The Stuart Gower prepared and Chris Bryant ridden Subella $10 made up considerable ground to gain second prize with David Hayes preparing the minor place getter Innovation $10 who was ridden by Dean Yendall.

Cullen Bay gave the northern track of Gawler its second successive winner in the 1000 metre fifth race of the day. Being under the care of Graham Fryer Cullen Bay $26 settled down in second position behind the early leader Constructor but was too powerful over the concluding stages of the event.

The minor placing was taken out by the Dean Yendall ridden and Peter Macdonald prepared Faire Monter $17.

Victorian horseman Dean Yendall added another race to his impressive SA record when Seaming took out the final event of the day which was contested over 1450 metres. After being in the middle of the field Yendall employed some daring tactics by taking Seaming to the extreme outside just after the runners rounded the home turn. Starting at $31 Seaming defeated the Chad Lever ridden and Leon Macdonald trained Esroh $10. Steel Currency $9 finished third for Jeremy Gask and apprentice Peter Roff.
