Dual Gr. 1 winning New Zealand mare Glamour Puss has been retired to stud and will not start in Saturday's July Cup at Newmarket in England on Saturday (NZ time).

Mark Chittick, part-owner of Waikato Stud which races and bred Glamour Puss, confirmed the decision to retire the Tale Of The Cat mare was made on Monday evening.

'Danny (O'Brien, trainer) was not 100 per cent happy with the way she looked after she had trained at the weekend,' Chittick said. 'Danny said she felt a bit flat and he recommended she be retired which we agreed to.'

'She is too valuable to take any risks with,' Chittick said.

'She will now go into quarantine and head back to Australia where she will be mated with Redoute's Choice at Arrowfield Stud and will then come over to Waikato Stud,' Chittick said.

Glamour Puss won twice at Gr. 1 level during her outstanding racing career.

She has been successful twice at Group 1 level over 1200 metres. The first of these successes was attained in the Goodwood Handicap in Adelaide in May, 2005. Her other Group I glory came in the Seppelt Salinger Stakes in Melbourne last October.

Other career highlights for Glamour Puss have included wins in the Group 2 Linlithgow Stakes at Flemington last November and Group 3 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick in March last year. Both of these races were also 1200m events.

Glamour Puss has been retired with 9 wins and eight placings from 26 starts with career earnings of NZ$1.4 million.
