Queensland Oaks Winner Allow To Resume

Queensland Oaks winner Allow will kick off her Melbourne Cup campaign in a restricted race at Randwick on Tuesday.

Trainer Clarry Conners said the mare would start in the IGA Hcp (1300m), a welter for horses with only one metropolitan win in the past year.

Allow's only win in town was the Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) in June and she will carry 56kg at Randwick with Patrick Murphy's claim.

"I've got a good race in mind for her in a couple of months time, but she has to kick off somewhere," Conners said.

Allow has won two other races during her 15-start career at Wyong and Gosford.

She is entered for the big three Melbourne features, the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.

Conners said Allow had suffered a slight bout of travel sickness on the way home from Brisbane which set her back a little.

"I originally planned to run her in the Toy Show Quality on Saturday but I thought that it might be a hard race first-up," he said.

"This race was as close as I could get to that race and it fits in.

"She really didn't show her best until she got over 2000 metres last preparation and I will be happy just to see her hit the line strongly."

Among her opposition at Randwick will be Hong Kong reject Double Dip.

The northern hemisphere bred six-year-old did his early racing in Ireland before going to Hong Kong but didn't handle the pressure cooker environment and was sent to Conners' Warwick Farm neighbour Oliver Koolman.

His past six starts have produced three placings and three wins including a seven-length victory on his home track last Wednesday week.

Koolman is hoping to continue his recent winning streak where he had four winners in the first week of the new season.

"We have had a good run in recent weeks and although we don't have any carnival horses, hopefully we can keep it going in the lesser races," Koolman said.
