Champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien has given the green light for star stayer Yeats to come to Australia for the Group One Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m). The Ballydoyle horseman told the Racing Post that provided everything went to plan the Royal Ascot Gold Cup hero would contest Australia's most famous race. Heavily backed a fortnight ago with bookmakers across Australia, Yeats has reportedly not coming to Australia with Racing Victorian issuing a press release ruling the star out of the race. But O'Brien now looks set to have his first ever runner in Australia with news Yeats will be quarantined overnight. "Yeats will go into quarantine at Ballydoyle this Friday for two weeks, and the plan it to travel to Australia as long as everything is okay with the horse," O'Brien said. "When he gets to Australia he will spend a further two weeks in quarantine, so hopefully it all will work out. He seems in good form since the Irish Leger. Nothing has been decided about a jockey." Regular rider Kieren Fallon is currently prohibited to ride in England and connections won't know if he can ride in Australia until an application is considered by local authorities. It is understood Melbourne Cup winning jockey Mick Kinane is on standby to ride Yeats in this year's Cup. Yeats is currently a $9 chance and on the second line of betting for the Melbourne Cup with leading Melbourne bookmaker Michael Eskander. Eskander has the John Hawkes trained Headturner as the Cup favourite at $8. PIC - Sportpix.
