Lotteria's Sister In Canterbury Debut

Rose Of Sharon, an impeccably-bred half-sister to dual Group One winner Lotteria, is set to make her long-awaited debut at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Lotteria won just under $1.5 million in prizemoney in a career that included wins in both the Flight Stakes and Myer Classic and a second to the great Makybe Diva in last year's Cox Plate.

Rose Of Sharon is by Racing To Win's sire Encosta De Lago out of the Sir Tristram mare Rose Reward and was bred by billionaire Gerry Harvey, a friend of trainer Pat Webster's for 30 years.

"She's a lovely big, strong filly with a lovely nature and is great to work with," Webster said of the three-year-old.

Webster believes the Nivea Visage Maiden (1200m) will provide a tough hitout for the filly and said he'll be closer to finding out what she is really made of after the race.

"While she's very well bred that's not everything and I'm looking for racing to bring out plenty of improvement in her," Webster said.

"Three-year-old maidens this time of year can be hard to win and now that we've drawn barrier nine it makes it even harder."

Rose Of Sharon won her only Randwick barrier on September 22 with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and he will be reunited with the filly on Wednesday.

"Hugh's only ridden her once and while that trial win was good she wasn't up against much so it was hard to gauge too much from that," Webster said.

However Webster believes the filly is showing signs she will be ready to perform on Wednesday.

"She is looking really switched-on for the race and has been working well," he said.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained debutant Kiloton, a $200,000 Magic Millions purchase, is the pre-post favourite at $3 for Wednesday's 1200m race on the strength of a solid 1030m barrier trial win at Rosehill on September 15.

Rose Of Sharon is at $7 in latest betting while others in the market include Tim Martin's To Spur With Love ($4.60), Gerald Ryan's Holtermann ($5.50) and the John Hawkes-trained first starter Blackmails ($6).

Meanwhile, the John O'Shea-trained Two Twenty Swift makes his return to midweek company in Wednesday's APN Outdoor Handicap (1900m).

The colt's last run was in the Listed Dulcify Quality (1800m)at Randwick on September 30 when he finished seventh to Theseo.
