Stony Creek Almost Hosts Another Triple Dead Heat

After making worldwide headlines 20 years ago when three horses dead heated for a win, the Stony Creek track in the Gippsland region of Victoria game with an inch of doing it again.

Yesterday three runners in the Snap Finance Handicap (1007m) hit the line locked together in an incredible photo finish.

The judge took a while to declare the numbers 4-1-2 - with Sir Woody (inside) beating Lord of Lauriston (outside) by a nose. Flamin' Unreal (middle) was third, another nose away.

For the record the winner was ridden by Logan McGill and trained by trans-Tasman horseman John Wheeler.

The Wheeler stable is best known for their feature race wins over jumps but over recent weeks the stables Aussie based flat performers have been racing with great distinction.

On Boxing Day another member of the stable - the in form gelding Arbitration - scored an impressive win in listed grade at Caulfield.
