An outstanding pedigree makes juvenile Devet a standout hope of making a successful debut at Wednesday's Victoria Racing Club meeting at Cranbourne.

Trainer Tony Noonan has been patient with the Dehere youngster who Chris Symons will ride in the Hula Chief Hcp (1000m).

Devet's Royal Academy dam Palme D'Or is a half-sister to 2000 Golden Slipper and 2003 Newmarket Hcp winner Belle Du Jour while his second dam is multiple Group winner Delightful Belle.

His family also boasts Perfectly Ready, winner of the 2006 Group One Goodwood Hcp and placed in the 2005 Blue Diamond Stakes.

A $155,000 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling, Devet has always been on the smallish side but is well prepared for his first run after winning one and being placed twice in three official barrier trials.

"He was a pretty backward sort of horse," Noonan said.

"He does go along nicely but does get a little bit wound up and that's why we have given him the trials."

Devet knows Cranbourne well with all his trials on that track, his most recent when a length third to Captanadi and Prince Kung on April 30.

Last spring he also won and finished second in Cranbourne barriers trials.

Noonan said the trials were important to the development of the youngster who has been difficult to handle due to being a colt.

"We have given him as a much experience as we possibly could and he's ready to go to the races now," Noonan said.

"Being the first foal from the mare he wasn't over-big but he's neat and compact and hopefully he will make the grade."

The Peter Moody-trained Confidence Reef and Lee Freedman's first starter Dabero's Jag are both acceptors at Cranbourne but are also entered for Saturday's $100,000 Blue Sapphire Classic (1000m) at Caulfield.

Confidence Reef has had only two starts for a win at Moonee Valley in December and last-start sixth to Fasline in the Listed My Rewards Stakes in Adelaide.

He was only beaten two lengths and Damien Oliver will ride him on Wednesday.

Michael Rodd has the ride on Dabero's Jag, who is by Delago Brom.

Dabero's Jag's dam Mo Mon Tai has been a good producer with five of her six foals to race being winners.
