Juste MomenteUnlucky mare Juste Momente finally broke through for a stakes win in the Liberty Financial Stakes at Flemington this afternoon.

Positioned nicely in fifth place on the rails by Hugh Bowman, Juste Momente was eased out halfway down the straight to make a well timed run under the whip.

Bursting to the lead at the 200m mark, Juste Momente ($4.20-$6.00) was ridden hands and heels by Bowman until a late challenge from Zip Baby Zip ($15-$26) saw him use the whip again in his left hand.

Juste MomenteJuste Momente responded well to Bowman's riding, winning by a long head from Zip Baby Zip with 1¾ lengths to Goldfield Ashes ($14-$15-$14) in third place.

The warm favourite, Eskaw ($5.00-$5.50-$4.60F) seemed to get lost in running and finished 11th under Scott Seamer.

A relieved trainer and part owner Danny O'Brien, was delighted to see his mare win as it added valuable black type to what was already a superb pedigree.

Juste Momente"It'll be worth a lot to be a stakewinner now", said O'Brien.

"She's out of Skates who's a daughter of Skating so its a pretty solid family."

"She's been unlucky in a few stakes races."

"She hasn't won one before today."

"She's been seconds and thirds so its good to get the bold black type."

Juste Momente has now won 5 of her 17 starts with 4 placings and $336,000 in prizemoney.

Juste MomenteO'Brien is now looking to try and pick up more stakes races at about the same standard.

"She's not the Group 1 or 2 standard but she's certainly that sort of standard, Group 3 or Listed", he said.

"She'll go to Sandown now for a 1500m mares race on Sandown Cup day."

The $100,000 TBV Summoned Stakes at Listed level seems ideally suited to Juste Momente at this stage of her career.

Jute Momente, by Giant's Causeway from Skates was purchased by O'Brien at the 2005 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000.

Juste MomenteShe is raced by O'Brien, Anthony and Katie Thompson of Widden Stud and Peter Murray.

Giant's Causeway is now the sire of 35 stakes winners.

A stakes placed mare herself, Skates is a sister to stakes placed Dubai Ice, and a half-sister to stakeswinners Murtajill, Bradbury's Luck and Sunset Run and stakes placed Tordean.

Her second dam, Skating, by At Talaq was Top of The 1992-93 Australasian 3YO Classification (1000m - 1400m) and won $1,187,240 in prizemoney. Her 7 wins from 1200m to 1600m, included the Group 1 AJC Doncaster Handicap and STC Winfield Classic.
