Trainer Danny O'Brien and jockey James Winks notched up a double at Caulfield today when talented and ever improving gelding Immortality won the Redelva Handicap (1100m).

A son of Lion Hunter, Immortality showed good improvement from his recent excellent first up second at Flemington when he beat all but Spectacular Saint on Emirates Stakes Day.

Winks, riding in white hot form, was able to get the four-year-old up on the speed early and he raced on the outside of Message Bank until after straightening for home.

When Winks asked Immortality to quicken he exploded away from his rivals and set up a winning break.

"That was awesome," Winks said moments after unsaddling the four-year-old.

At the finish Immortality ($4.40-$5.50-$4.60) held a three and a quarter length winning margin over Message Bank ($6-$6.50-$4.40).

Fabric of Dreams ($5.50-$6.50-$6) was another short half head back in third place.

The race lost one of its fancied runners just moments before the runners left the yard when Paris Zero was withdrawn by stewards acting on veterinary advice.

The Brian Mayfield-Smith trained mare was found to be lame.

"We might give him a crack at the Christmas Handicap now on Boxing Day," O'Brien commented.

"He's going well and that was a really impressive win."

"He travelled well during the race right on the speed and then when James asked I was thrilled with how he zipped clear."

"First up he found 57 (kilograms) a bit too much and he just laboured the last 50 (metres)."

"Prior to that his form was excellent in Adelaide - with two wins from three starts - and in the other he was beaten by Vormista."

Vormista subsequently came across to Melbourne and was a group winning during the spring carnival for Mark Minervini.

"I think he's a nice horse and he's improving all the time," O'Brien said of Immortality.

The race picked out for Immortality is the $106,000 listed Chrismas Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on December 26.

A graduate of the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, Immortality is by Danehill's ill fated sire son Lion Hunter and from the speedy Keltrice mare She's God's Gift.

Like the stable's Group Two and Adelaide MM Classic winner Ferocity who's also by Lion Hunter, Immortality was bred in Queensland by well known industry identity Ken "Tubby" Turner of Alma Vale Bloodstock.

Ken also bred Lion Hunter's former champion juvenile filly Lovely Jubly.

O'Brien and Winks teamed up earlier this afternoon to win with the presently unbeaten Code Black.
