Love And Kisses 'Ready for Guineas'

Chris Waller's spring hasn't quite worked out the way he wanted so far and he will be looking to Love And Kisses to turn things around at Caulfield on Wednesday.

The filly lines up against the country's best bar one in the Thousand Guineas with Samantha Miss the notable omission as she heads to the Cox Plate.

Although she has yet to run over further than 1400 metres and her best performances have been on wet tracks, Waller believes 1600 metres on a good surface is just what she wants.

"I think she is really looking for 1600 metres," Waller said.

"Barrier nine is not perfect but we have to deal with what we've got.

"She has been staying at Caulfield for the past week and although she probably would have benefited from having a race on the track, being there and working there is the next best thing."

Steven King will be aboard Love And Kisses with regular partner Corey Brown riding in Sydney on Wednesday.

Placed in the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes won by Sebring from Samantha Miss in the autumn, Love And Kisses ran third to Samantha Miss first-up this campaign in the Silver Shadow Stakes.

After Love And Kisses' second to Samantha Miss in the Furious Stakes, Waller decided to dodge the star filly and sent her out in the Stan Fox Stakes instead of the Tea Rose.

That plan didn't quite work out when Love And Kisses ran fourth to Dreamscape and the trainer decided to bring her back to her own sex.

Love And Kisses was at $18 with TAB Sportsbet with the Lee Freedman-trained Romneya favourite at $5 ahead of $6 chances Gallica and Portillo.

Gallica's trainer Mick Price has had a mixed couple of days with Alamosa winning the Toorak Handicap but Pompeii Ruler suffering an injury when second in the Yalumba Stakes.

Alamosa has now replaced Pompeii Ruler as the stable's Cox Plate hope and Price is looking for a big showing from Gallica in what he says seems a good year for a good filly.

"She is beautifully suited in a year that does not have a dominant favourite," he said.

"There is no Miss Finland, Alinghi or Special Harmony like past years so she gets her chance.

"She is very well placed drawn in barrier seven of 15 and she has had a good preparation for it."

Gallica has won her past three starts, handling the step up from a restricted race at Ballarat to the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes with ease to beat Guineas rivals Cats Whisker and Sparks Fly with Romneya fourth.
