Call of the Card - Horse by Horse Summary

Five bookmakers fielded at today's Call of the Card at the Crown Palladium.

The bookies on the "stand" were Alan Eskander, Tom Waterhouse, Simon Beasley, Winbet and Surebet.

A summary of the bets taken for each runner follow:

SEPTIMUS

Opened at $5.50. Tom Waterhouse said he would lay Septimus for $2 million at $5.50. Was the subject of some interest. The biggest bet being a $50,000 win bet with Waterhouse. Closed betting at $5.50.

MASTER O'REILLY

Oepened at $31 with Surebet. Attracted 11 bets from around the room including a $10,000 win bet from Paul Jones with Tom Waterhouse. Closed betting at $31.

HONOLULU

Opened at $26 with all bookies. Con Kafataris placed a $375,000 to $15,000 bet with Surebet. Mark Read had $20,000 to win and $10,000 to place with Alan Eskander at the same quote. Another punter placed a bet to win $10,000. Closed betting at $26.

C'EST LA GUERRE

Opened at $19 with most of the bookies. Simon Beasley took the bets and laid a $20,000 the win and $10,000 the place bet from Mark Read. There were five other smaller bets. Closed betting at $19.

NOM DU JEU

Opened at $8.50. Was solidly supported with many smaller bets. Tom Waterhouse took a $100,000 win bet from a client on his table. Closed betting at $8.50.

YELLOWSTONE

Opened at $81 with Surebet. Not one bet was written. Closed betting at $81.

ZIPPING

Opened at $16 with Alan Eskander. The biggest bets included a $50,000 to $3,250 punt from Mike Symons, an $8,000 place bet from Mark Read, a $2,000 win bet and a $1,000 each way bet. Closed betting at $16.

MAD RUSH

Opened at $5 with Alan Eskander. Some 29 bets were written - the biggest a $1,300 each way punt. Mad Rush proved popular with the everyday punters in the room. Closed betting at $5.

ICE CHARIOT

Opened at $71 with Winbet. The betting shifted to Surebet after a $500,000 to $7,000 bet was written by Winbet. Surebet took a bet to win $25,000. A few other small bets taken. Closed betting at $71.

VIEWED

Opened at $31 with Simon Beasley. Only two bets were written - one at $250 each way and the other at $200 each way. Closed betting at $31.

LITTORIO

Opened at $31 with Surebet. Some 20 bets were taken from around the room. One Betstar client backed him to win $100,000 with Alan Eskander. Tom Waterhouse took a bet from Paul Jones to win $500,000. And Mark Read had $3,000 each way with Surebet and $4,000 to win with Alan Eskander.

BAUER

Opened at $21 with Tom Waterhouse. Plenty of bets from around the room. Mark Read had a $10,000 place bet. Surebet took a $10,000 win wager. Alan Eskander took a $2,500 win bet from Mike Symons. Surebet also took a $5,000 win bet and a $2,000 each way bet. Closed betting at $21.

BOUNDLESS

Opened at $101 with Simon Beasley. Eight bets were taken - the biggest being a $1,000 place bet. Also a $500 win ticket was written. Closed betting at $101.

GALLOPIN

Opened at $41 with Alan Eskander. Mark Read had $5,000 to win. Mike Symons had $1,200 to win. There was also a $1,500 each way bet from the floor. Closed betting at $41.

GUYNO

Opened at $151 with Winbet. Only three bets written - for a total of $400 each way. Little interest. Closed betting at $151.

NEWPORT

Opened at $81 with Surebet. Eleven bets from the floor including a $600 win and $100 place bet. Also a $500 each way punt. Everything else smaller. Closed betting at $81.

PROFOUND BEAUTY

Opened at $8 with Winbet. The room was sent into a spin when Con Kafataris laid bets with three bookies fielding to win $2 million. The three laying to Kafataris were Alan Eskander, Surebet and Tom Waterhouse. There was also a $500,000 to $70,000 bet from Waterhouse. Closed betting at $7.50

RED LORD

Opened at $101 with Simon Beasley. No interest so Surebet offered $126. Only four bets written with Mark Read's $1,000 each way the biggest. He did want $4,000 to win and $2,000 to place. Closed betting at $101.

VAREVEES

Opened at $101 with Surebet. No bets. Eased to $126. No bets. Closed betting at $126.

PRIZE LADY

Opened at $126 with Surebet. A few each way bets with figures under $1,000 before a $4,000 win bet was split between Alan Eskander and Tom Waterhouse from Bill Gibson. Closed betting at $101.

ALESSANDRO VOLTA

Opened at $51 with Surebet. Con Kafataris had a $500,000 to $10,000 win bet. Surebet closed that price and two more bets were written for smaller prices elsewhere. Closed betting at $41.

BARBARICUS

Opened at $18 with Winbet. A few bets - but the biggest was from a client of Tom Waterhouse, a $20,000 win bet. Closed betting at $18.

MOATIZE

Opened at $31 with Winbet. One client had a bet to win a half million dollars on the Cummings rep. Five other smaller bets followed. Closed betting at $31.
