After riding a winner at the Moonee Valley fixture sixteen hours earlier apprentice Ibrahim Gundogdu struck again when he guided the three- year-old filly Miss Nederlands to a half neck win in the opening event of 1803 metres at Cheltenham on Saturday. The Neil Walsh trained daughter of the United States bred stallion Vain Nistelrooy from Deune, a Green Line Express mare, Miss Nederlands $6 settled in fourth position before taking the lead in the middle stages and defeating Jervois, the $1.50 favourite, for mentor Richard Jolly and rider Chad Lever. Eastern Manners $3.50 was a farther two and a quarter lengths away third for Simon Price and Leon Macdonald. The Ibrahim Gundogdu show continued when the in-form jockey rode the Mark Kavanagh trained Danedina to a two and a quarter length victory in the 1353 metre second event. A $2.70 chance at barrier rise the Danehill Dancer mare out of Monde Bleu, an Aradina mare, Danedina was in contention for the entire race and beat the apprentice Amy Herrmann ridden David Balfour trained Esprit De Roses $3.40. A farther two and a half-lengths away third was Rolling Stock $10 for Paul Gatt and Clinton McDonald. Fresh from her victory on the Peter Snowden trained Norteno in last Wednesday's apprentice only race at Canterbury Libby Hopwood returned to local racing in fine style when she guided the Richard Jolly performer Maduro $6 to a two and a half length win in the 1303 metre third race. Fathered by the American bred sire Jugah from the Prago mare My Madonna, Maduro was the on-pace runner throughout the event and beat the Brian Mueller mentored apprentice Scott Bailey ridden Just Flipper, the $2 punter's choice. Allstar $16 was another length away filling the minor placing for Paul Seater and Simon Price. Jockey Adrian Patterson broke a forty-eight ride loosing streak when he guided Arezzo $7 to a half head win in the 1303 metre fourth event which gave trainer Richard Jolly back to back wins. A Xaar gelding from the Hand Crafted mare Shavarno Miss, Arezzo came from well back in the field and beat the Bill Smart prepared Mathew Neilson ridden Mr Tschaikovsky $5. A farther one and a quarter lengths away third was Luna Spirit, the $2-30 favourite, for Daniel Clarken and Ben Claridge. Adrian Patterson brought up a race to race double when the David Balfour prepared Cosmic Commander was the half length winner of the fifth race which was run over 2255 metres. A four-year-old Commands gelding out of the Geiger Counter mare Cosmic Queen, Cosmic Commander $5 settled well and went on to beat the Byron Cozamanis trained Chad Lever ridden The Ozie Boy $3.40. All About Annie $7 was a short half head away, filling the minor placing, for Leon Macdonald and Paul Gatt. Trainer David Balfour brought his second winner then his apprentice Amy Herrmann guided Terango to a three quarters of a length win in the sixth event which was contested over 1000 metres. A six-year-old bay horse sired by Akhandan from the Sarajaavo mare Sarajaavo Grey, Terango $3.40 raced close to the lead and beat the Imbrahim Gundogdu ridden Jon O'Connor mentored Jest For Fun $14. Beau Bascar $11 was another one and a half-lengths away third for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price. Trainer Lin Richards and jockey Simon Price were well pleased with the long head winning performance of Tassie Gold in race seven which was run over 1453 metres. A Weasel Clause gelding from the Tertian mare Vonda Tassie Gold was not very far from the lead for the entire journey and beat the David Hayes trained Ryan Plumb ridden Aztec Sun $7-50. A head away third was Regal Dash $7 for David Halliday and Adrian Patterson. Glaneuse, the $3 favourite, gave a polished display when it won the final event of 1253 metres. The Michael O'Leary trained Dominic Tourneur ridden gelding was sired by Blevic out of the Export Price mare Qu'appelle, and beat the David Hayes prepared Paul Gatt mount Fruit O' the Vine $3-30. A farther three-quarters of a length away third was Lucky Fox $4-60 for Simon Price and Stuart Gower.
