Strathalbyn trainer Peter Moody laid the foundation for a good days racing when his charge, the Dominic Tourneur ridden Forez, won the opening race of 2050 metre at Strathalbyn on Sunday. Starting at $6 the Centre Stalls four year old mare from the Rancho Ruler mare Godina, Forez was well back in the early and middle stages before taking the lead on the home turn and going on to beat the apprentice Ryan Plumb ridden David Hayes mentored Rosegreeen $3. A farther neck away filling the minor placing was Yesquire $8.50 for Jeffrey Maun d and Barry Brook. The half length win of the $4 chance Drover's Lament saw trainer Clayton Bromley and jockey Ben Claridge in the winner's circle after the running of the 1200 metre second race. Sired by Delago Brom out of Above The Crowd, a daughter of the Irish bred stallion Archway, Drover's Lament came from a mid field position and defeated the David Aldridge mentored - Mathew Neilson piloted Bitofadreamer $9. The $2.50 public elect Umatilla Magic was another short head away third for Shane Oxlade and Justin Potter. After finishing third in the previous race Justin Potter broke through for a long head victory on My Star Dane for local trainer Karen Letts- Maund in race three which was run over 1200 metres. A $10 chance at barrier rise and sired by the Adelaide Hills based sire Akhadan from the Amen Brother mare Brooke's Star, My Star Dane came from a rearward position to gain victory. Riding for her master Fred Meuring apprentice Lauren Stojakovic rode Flying Phoenix $4-60 into second place giving the locals the quinella in the event. Another two lengths away third was Llaroo Bay $7 for Ryan Plumb and visiting Port Lincoln mentor Jenny Gow-Whyte. Coming from well back and starting at $17 Mister Universe was the two and a half length winner of the 1600 metre fourth race. Being under the care of former cross country rider Grant Young and having the services of Jeffrey Maund Mister Universe was sired by Universal Prince and was out of the Danehill mare Our Dane. Mister Universe beat the John Macmillan prepared apprentice Libby Hopwood ridden Oil Can Ruby $6. A farther short half head away was Halfazac $4-20 for Ken Matson and apprentice Jordan Mallyon. Star of the Stalls brought up a hat trick of wins when she was the half neck winner of the final of the Spring Series which was contested over 1350 metres. Being slow out of the gates the Centre Stalls mare, from the Stargazer matron Picalilli Star, Star of the Stalls, the $2-50 favourite, made up considerable ground and went on to defeat Giggling Girl for local trainer Fred Meuring and jockey Dominic Tourneur. One and three quarter lengths away third was Our Indian Rose $9 for Gordon Richards and Michael Hoppo. Following on from a double at Cheltenham on Saturday Matthew Neilson won the first of two races when he was aboard the Ken Sweeney prepared Emseven. Starting at $10 Emseven is a Viscount gelding from the Habituate mare Miss Golly and defied the trend of previous winners by leading all the way to defeat the David Baylis trained Ryan Plumb ridden Riveret $6. Jupiters Gold was a farther head away third for Michael Clarken and Libby Hopwood. The win of the Devaraja sired Basils Bravado, from the Nassipour mare Runaway Queen, gave Matthew Neilson the second leg of his double in the final event which was contested over 1350 metres. Coming from a better than midfield position Basils Bravado $4 beat the Karen Byrnes prepared Clair Lindop piloted $3-80 favourite Not Allowed. A head away third was Snapertude $14 for Barbara Geracitano and Ben Hoppo.
