Better Be the One kicked away her career in style with a strong finishing victory in the valleyevents.net.au Plate (1200m) at Moonee Valley tonight.

Debuting for the powerful Flemington stables of Danny O'Brien, Better Be the One was able to nab the Lee Freedman trained You're Beautiful in the straight and cruise to victory.

O'Brien's stable foreman Gerard Tesoriero said the decision to scratch stablemate Purely Spectacular proved a good one when Better Be the One turned out to be the one.

"She's a nice filly," Tesoriero said. "She's well put together. She's got a lot of scope for improvement."

"We're really happy with her debut effort tonight," he added.

"Both of the fillies were well deserved to be in this race tonight. But we thought, don't spoil the party for one of them."

Better Be the One ($1.75-$3 fav) drew clear late to beat the early leader You're Beautiful ($3.50-$4-$3.70) by a length and a half.

Another length and three quarters back in third place was the Hope trained Showstoppa ($3-$6.50).

The other of the fancied runners, the Craig Newitt mount Love Attack ($3-$3.70-$3.20), faded in the straight to finish fourth, another half length back.

Better Be the One's rider Steven King will be hoping his winning continues to roll over the weekend.

Tomorrow at Morphettville he will ride the highly regarded Champagne Harmony in the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes.

His other rides on the day include Show Bling in the The Jansz and Dr Doute's in the City of Adelaide Stakes.

Better Be the One, a $65,000 yearling is yet another promising young performer for the leading Vinery Stud stallion More Than Ready.

His recent juvenile stars have included the reigning Golden Slipper winner Sebring and the past two Magic Millions victors Augusta Proud and Phelan Ready.

He is also the sire of the highly rated youngster More Joyous - the hot favourite for the Reisling Stakes.
