South Australian visitor Imacruiser kept its unbeaten record in tact with a dominate victory in the Jack Elliot Handicap (1200m) for two-year-olds at Caulfield this afternoon. Trained by Mick Huxtable and ridden by three kilo claiming apprentice Billy Egan, Imacruiser stalked the leaders before unleashing a devastating sprint in the latter stages to win comfortably. In the run to the line, Imacruiser ($12 -$15) defeated St Kiara ($10-$14) by two and a quarter lengths with Briefed ($4.60-$6-$5) finishing strongly down the outside in third beaten four lengths from the winner. There was a line of horses for fourth with Queen Oedipus ($7-$8) narrowly edging out Extra Zero ($20), Our Inheritance ($8.50) and last start winner My Girl Helen ($4.40 fav) who finished seventh.
The softly spoken Huxtable was pleased with the ride from young Egan. "He (Imacruiser) has done well and the kid rode him a treat," Huxtable said. Leading all the way last start at Morphettville, Huxtable said that it was always their intention to take her to Victoria and to take a sit in the run. "It was always our plan to come here because he was going to get 59 kilos in Adelaide plus he's Vobis qualified." "He's actually a better chaser and he's just been jumping too well and putting himself in there," Huxtable said.
Huxtable has plans to take Imacruiser back home for the $100,000 Group 3 Sires' Produce Stakes (1600m) for two-year-olds will be held on May 2 at Morphettville where it is likely to meet Flawless Gem, a last start winner at Cranbourne from the Rod Douglas stable. Flawless Gem will run this Wednesday at Sandown Lakeside in a 1400 metre two-year-old handicap as a final tune-up before the feature race. Sold for $17,000 at the Adelaide Magic Millions Sale, Imacruiser is by Akhadan out of She's Posh and is the third named foal of the dam. She's Posh was a South Australian mare trained by Stuart Padman also at Murray Bridge, and won three races from 19 starts. Interestingly, all her victory came in races no further then 1050 metres.
Eligible to gain Super Vobis bonuses, today's victory takes the prizemoney of Imacruiser well beyond the $100,000 mark. PICS - Jenny Barnes
