History and a strong line-up suggest Absolut Glam faces a daunting task to claim her second Group One victory in the BTC Cup at Doomben on Saturday.

However, trainer Danny O'Brien is hoping last year's Group One Winter Stakes winner can grab a slice of history by becoming only the fourth mare to win the 1200-metre feature since the race became weight-for-age in 1991.

Queensland's Seawinne was a five-year-old when she became the first of her sex to win the BTC Cup at weight-for-age in 1995.

Sydney mare Staging's victory 10 years ago earned her the honour of being the only successful four-year-old mare while five-year-old New Zealand mare Gee I Jane won in 2006.

O'Brien, who started training eight years ago, won three Group One races last season but his only win at the top level this season was with Douro Valley in the Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield in October.

"I'm very happy with Absolut Glam. She's settled in very well since she's been in Brisbane and her work at Doomben on Tuesday was first class," he said.

Michael Rodd will ride Absolut Glam who hasn't started since finishing sixth to Bel Mer in the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on March 21.

It was only her second start since a joint injury disrupted her spring and followed her first-up performance when a close seventh to Perth sprinter Scenic Blast in the Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 7.

"I was getting her ready last spring for the Myer Classic but she had a minor joint problem and had to spell after only two runs," O'Brien said.

"She ran well first-up in the Newmarket and she wasn't that far from the winner but I think the run flattened her and she ran below par in Adelaide," O'Brien said.

O'Brien believes Absolut Glam has a strong chance of improving on her Group One record in the BTC Cup and named Apache Cat and Swiss Ace as her two main dangers.

"I think Apache Cat is the measuring stick for her this winter," he said.

"He's won seven Group One races so he'll be a good guide for us."

Absolut Glam will meet Apache Cat and Swiss Ace in two more Group Ones, the Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 23 and Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 6, before attempting back-to-back wins in the Winter Stakes (1400m) two weeks later.

Absolut Glam was rated by many observers as a good thing beaten in last year's Stradbroke Handicap when she finished fourth to Mr Baritone.

"I wouldn't say she should have won the Stradbroke but she ran a great race after travelling wide all the way and was beaten about half a length," O'Brien said.

Absolut Glam carried 52 kilograms, one kilo above the limit in last year's Stradbroke, but O'Brien expects to receive more this year.

"She'll get more weight this time but she's only won one Group One so the handicapper can't be too harsh," he said.

Stradbroke weights will be released on Monday.
