Emerging stayer Handsome Dane who was lucky to stay on his feet last start at the Gold Coast, will be looking for a change of fortune at Lismore.
The John Shelton-trained four-year-old tackles Monday's Budget Eyewear Rating 62 Handicap (2000m) with stable apprentice Ben Looker in the saddle.
Shelton said punters should totally disregard the gelding's last start eighth to Tora San over 1800m at the Gold Coast on August 15.
"He nearly fell at the 100 metres, he was lucky to stay on his feet," Shelton said.
Stewards' reports said Handsome Dane had been checked in an incident involving six horses including the winner.
Fortunately Handsome Dane took no major harm from the mishap and Shelton is happy with a nine-day back up.
Handsome Dane is owned by a local Lismore syndicate headed by Alistair Somerville.
"I've had a couple of horses for the same group including Ivan The Great who is related to Handsome Dane," Shelton said.
"Handsome Dane is still a big immature horse and probably needs more time and racing but I think he's got a future as a stayer.
"He still doesn't know how to begin and can do some things wrong.
"I've kept him ticking over since the Gold Coast. Down the track he's a horse I think can get through his classes."
Handsome Dane had been in consistent form prior to the Gold Coast with a win and three placings at his previous four starts.
His overall record is one win and four placings from nine starts.
Shelton likened Handsome Dane to First Offence, a lightly raced four-year-old entered for The Prime Television Rating 67 Handicap (1400m).
"They're similar types," Shelton said.
"They both look really good and have futures over a bit of ground."
Shelton said he would wait until race morning to decide if last start winner First Offence starts.
"He's drawn out in the car park (barrier 15) and while he'll get back I don't know what we can teach him under those circumstances," he said.
"I'll discuss it with the owners and make a decision tomorrow."
Shelton will also saddle up Promised in the Burgess Media Rating 57 Handicap (1200m) and Annoyance in the Ireland Honda Rating 62 Handicap (1000m).
Annoyance looked impressive scoring first-up after 230 days at Grafton on July 12 then turned in a shocker when 9th to Sir Qualo at Ballina on July 24.
"I don't know what happened at Ballina. She was up there near the lead then inexplicably dropped right out," Shelton said.
"She pulled up good and has done really well since."
