Iconic ten-year-old sprinter Mitanni has been retired by trainer John Wallace. Mitanni has accumulated $1.19 million in prizemoney over a career that featured 20 wins and 27 placings from 85 starts. Three of those victories have been registered at Group and Listed level. The gelding was successful in the 2007 Listed Summer Cup (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast, the 2008 Group 2 Sir Byrne Heart (1200m) and earlier this year the Eyeliner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich when ridden by Brent Evans (pictured below). "He performed year in, year out and he's been such a gentleman to have in the stable," Wallace told Brisbane newspaper The Courier-Mail before adding "we'll miss him." Mitanni is by Danewin out of Ivor Prince mare And A Hug, which finished third in the 1993 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) behind seven-time Group 1 winner Slight Chance and 1995 Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) winner Royal Tiara.
