Trainer John O'Shea has had a change of heart over Racing To Win's Hong Kong assignment and the star galloper will now contest the Mile race.

Racing To Win was originally invited to tackle the Hong Kong Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin on December 13 but O'Shea contacted stewards in Hong Kong earlier this week and requested a switch to the shorter race.

"I'm extremely grateful that the Hong Kong Jockey Club have allowed us to switch back to the Mile," O'Shea said.

"I think the horse will be better suited in the 1600-metre race."

Racing To Win could face a clash with Hong Kong's rising star Happy Zero who was a brilliant winner of the Sprint Trial on Sunday.

He was initially expected to contest the Hong Kong Sprint at the International meeting but trainer John Moore has also nominated him for the Mile at the insistence of his stable jockey Darren Beadman.

"Happy Zero was not in the Mile originally, but he will be now - Darren Beadman's been telling me for weeks that this horse is a miler not a sprinter," Moore told the South China Morning Post.

"We will keep our options open, but we might go for the longer race with him instead."

Racing To Win has had three starts over 2000 metres or further with his best result a second to Scenic Shot in the Doomben Cup (2020m) in May.

He is a three-time winner over 1600 metres, highlighted by his Doncaster-Epsom Handicap double in 2006.

The multiple Group One winner has not raced since he finished fourth to Scenic Shot in the Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

O'Shea reported Racing To Win worked strongly on Tuesday morning and would have a jumpout at Randwick on Friday when he will line up against the likes of Hong Kong Sprint hopeful All Silent.

Racing To Win will also be on show on Sunday when he will be paraded at an open day at O'Shea's Randwick stables.

O'Shea trained a double at Rosehill last Saturday when Honest Lies and Informality were successful.

He has nominated Donnas Honour for a 1550-metre race at Randwick on Saturday and debutante Solar Charged for an open handicap (1000m) for two-year-olds.
