Belscenica continued to display her liking for Moonee Valley after she won the $70,000 John Paraskevas 0-89 Handicap (2040m). Belscenica won last start when making her Moonee Valley debut and maintained its perfect record with an impressive display against the fillies and mares this afternoon. Settling in fifth position, Belscenica was caught wide before three-kilo claiming apprentice Jarrod Fry showed imitative to press forward and sit outside the leader. When the tempo quickened from the 450m mark, Belscenica sprinted past early leader American Morsecode and left his other rivals in his wake. Belscenica ($9-$12) defeated Miss Lily Rose ($2.20-$2.50-$2.45 fav) by a length and a half with Feel Like Dancing ($13-$16) a further three quarter lengths away. Bubble Act ($11-$13) enjoyed a perfect run in transit but held onto fourth while Saranah Gold ($10-$11) made up a little ground to finish fifth, three lengths from the winner. American Morsecode ($17-$26) faded over the concluding stages to run eighth while fancied runner Corningstone ($6.50-$7.50-$6.50) never putting itself into the race, finishing tenth. Fry paid credit to trainer Tony Noonan after the daughter of Scenic showed immense resilience to hit the line hard. "They were only going steady and when I let her roll forward, they were pretty comfortable in doing so." "We were sought of in an awkward spot out wide and I decided to press forward and it just shows what I top training effort it was from Tony Noonan to step her up in distance and still find the line like that." Stable foreman Wes Hunter said "I don't think she's as green as what she use to be" however acknowledged that if it wasn't for the masterful ride of Fry he wouldn't have won. "He did the right thing and he got the money so we are happy," Hunter said. By Scenic out of Bellonic, Belscenica is a full-sister to Ozolins who was formerly trained by Noonan but now races in Hong Kong under the name of Speedy Pegasus. Picture - Greg Irvine
