Raheen Has Queensland’s Current Leading Juvenile Sires
When Random Orbit got off to a promising start to his racing career with a debut win at Toowoomba on Saturday, he became the third winner in the first ten weeks of juvenile racing for 2009-10 in the second crop of Stromberg Carlson, a Redoute's Choice sire located at the Basil Nolan family's Raheen stud in the Gladfield Valley near Warwick in Queensland.

The success put Stromberg Carlson in equal second top place on the Australian juvenile sires' list by winners and steadied him in the leading 20 (17th) on earnings.

He shares his position on numerical leadership with General Nediym, Johannesburg, Fastnet Roc k, Shovhog and Secret Savings and is headed only by Vinery based Mossman.

As Danehill Golden Slipper second Shovhog (ninth by money) is also at Raheen, the stud currently has the two Queensland numerical leaders.

The most successful sire of juveniles for Australasia on earnings, winners and stakes winners to this week is the deceased General Nediym.

He has had two stakes winners in Australia and a stakes winner and stakes placed runner in New Zealand. Both General Nediym and Mossman were bred and owned in Queensland.

Random Orbit, the newest winner for Stromberg Carlson, a sire who is close to being a three-quarter brother to Testa Rossa,, both of them being from the Danzig male line and sharing the same dam, was bred by his owners, J.W and S.P. McKeering, and is in the Michael Nolan stables at Toowoomba.

It appears worth noting that Random Orbit is from a mare by Our Maizcay, one of Australasia's most brilliant modern 2-year-olds.

This Widden stud bred grandson of Marscay through his fleetfooted son Maizcay now standing at Mark Ritchie's Minumurra stud near Glen Innes, NSW, at two ran 11 times for seven successive wins in New Zealand and then crossed to Sydney for seconds in the Skyline Stakes and Todman Slipper and a fourth in the Golden Slipper.

Our Maizcay went on to race eight times at three for six more successive wins, including the Caulfield Guineas,VicHealth Cup, Ascot Vale Stakes and San Domenico Stakes.

His daughter Icemaze, the dam Random Orbit, currently has a yearling sister to him.It is not in next month's Magic Millions sale at the Gold Coast, but there are 12 by Stromberg Carlson listed, including six from Raheen.
