Regally bred entire Seventh Reason continue his progression as a talented stayer in the making with a runaway win in the Computer Air Handicap (1900m) at Canterbury this afternoon. A lightly raced four-year-old by champion international sire Sadler's Wells, Seventh Reason set a record for the highest price ever achieved at a Magic Millions sale when in 2008 he made $2 million to the bid of Gai Waterhouse. The price, since been eclipsed by two other yearlings and equalled by another, was the highest for a yearling in the famous Gold Coast sales ring. And Seventh Reason is now living up to his breeding and is developing into a stayer of promise. "It was a very nice win," Waterhouse's stable foreman Steve Dennett said. "It seemed to be a nice easy pace and they left him alone." Connections feel that Seventh Reason can continue to develop into a classy stayer of the future. "He's taken a long time to mature into himself." Dennett was impressed with the ride from Kathy O'Hara who shot her mount away from his rivals early in the straight and from that point the result was never in doubt. "She went nice and early and left the others with no chance," he noted. Kathy O'Hara got the late call up to ride Seventh Reason to replace Josh Parr who was indisposed. "It was a typical Grade A Gai Waterhouse (effort) - just hard and tough, go to the front, roll along and be hard to run down," O'Hara commented. "He gave a really strong kick. I picked up from about the 700 and again from before the top of the straight and he really accelerated and he maintained it well." Seventh Reason, a winner of two of his past four runs, was purchased by Waterhouse on behalf of connections for $2 million. He is a half brother to this season's Group One winning filly More Joyous - being from the Oaks winner and regally related Sunday Silence mare Sunday Joy. The first horse to bring seven figures at the Gold Coast, Sunday Joy won three stakes races and is one of the most valuable broodmares in the country. He is from the Queensland Oaks winner Joie Denise and is therefore a half sister to the champion middle distance performer Tuesday Joy. Two of her other stakes performed half sisters - Mary Marvel and Joie - have yearlings set to go under the hammer at January's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The youngster from the group performed Fusaichi Pegasus mare Mary Marvel, a bay colt by Encosta de Lago, is bound to be one of the most sought after lots of the sale. The Strawberry Hill Stud offering is an outstanding individual. Meanwhile, the Joie yearling - a bay colt by Solar Charged's sire Charge Forward - is another top Strawberry Hill Stud offering and like the Mary Marvel youngster will sell during the sale's second session.
