Triple Crown On Track For Millions

Triple CrownTriple Crown booked her place in the field for the $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic when she led home a Magic Millions trifecta in the TAB Number 1 Club Handicap (1200m) at Randwick today.

Courtesy of a dream run from a favourable barrier, Triple Crown was able to skip clear in the home straight and then hold out the favourite Ambers Waltz to win by a neck.

Winning trainer Gary Portelli immediately announced the filly would be heading north to contest Queensland's richest race, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 9.

The filly by Danehill's Golden Slipper winning son Catbird, Triple Crown stripped fitter for today's event following her recent first up third to Brightexpectations in the Magic Millions Wyong Slipper earlier in the year.

Prior to a break she ran a close up fourth in the listed Gimcrack Stakes behind fellow Magic Millions graduate Gybe.

Triple CrownPortelli said the filly had pleased him in the lead up to her latest outing and then took confidence when main rival Ambers Waltz drew the outside barrier.

"This filly was at the top of her game," Portelli commented. "We thought she would run well."

"I was really concerned the John's horse but when it drew the outside gate I thought we would be a chance," he added.

"And as it turned out that is what happened."

Winning rider Nathan Berry, who had the filly poised just behind the leaders prior to pouncing upon the lead in the straight, was impressed with the filly's performance.

"We decided to take a sit today, Gary and I," Berry noted. "I was hoping there would be enough speed."

"We got on their backs and pulled out around the turn and sprinted nice up the rise and won well," he added.

"Gary has trained her rock hard fit. She keeps fighting - she's a great fighter."

Triple CrownJohn O'Shea, trainer of Ambers Waltz, said he was happy with the performance of his runner and said she was well on truly on track for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

A half sister to Triple Crown, by exciting freshman sire Stratum, is catalogued as lot 110 for the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The Baerami Thoroughbreds offering is the latest yearling from Canicula, a city winning half sister to Hitapotomoss.
