Hidden Wonder extended her perfect record for the new stable to two when she finished too strongly for her rivals in the Paul Curran Handicap (1600m) at Randwick today. Now in the care of Kris Lees in New South Wales after four good wins for David Hayes, Hidden Wonder made it back to back wins in a thrilling finish. Lees said the stakes performed mare had settled into her new surrounds well and was racing with great distinction. "She's a good tough mare," he said. "She's obviously dropped in grade from what she was racing against in Melbourne over the carnival." Her outing today was her first in public since winning on debut for the stable on November 28. "The gap between runs has probably suited her," Lees pointed out. "It was a very good ride. Twice she looked beaten at the furlong and she came again. A good tough win." For much of the race winning rider Kody Nestor didn't think he would be returning to the first placegetter's stalls. "I was never going to get there, the whole way down the running," Nestor said. "But at the 50 I could see a couple of the others dropping off a bit so I kept at her and she got going." "I had to dig her up before the corner to keep up with Jimmy as he was always travelling well." "To her credit she was tough and got the win," Nestor summed up. Now the winner of six races and earner of over $210,000, Hidden Wonder has turned out a great purchase for a syndicate managed by Joe O'Neill. O'Neill went to $50,000 to purchase Hidden Wonder from the draft of Bellerive Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Hidden Wonder, a mare by Danzero, is one of two stakes performed produced by the Flemington stakes placegetter Princess Shorna. As well as Hidden Wonder, Princess Shorna is the dam of the Group Three Star Kingdom Stakes runner-up Strong Choice. Princess Shorna, a winner by Last Tycoon, is a half sister to four winners including the Caulfield Guineas winner Kenwood Melody and Sydney stakes winner Kalamarco. Further back she hails from the family of one of the greatest horses ever to grace the Australian turf, the mighty Tobin Bronze.
