Jewelled Crown emerged as a filly with great staying upside when she powered to the line to win the Aqua D'Amore Handicap (1600m) at Randwick today. Purchased and trained by the Cups king Bart Cummings, Jewelled Crown showed she was destined for a bright future over longer distances with an impressive performance. Ridden off the speed by talented apprentice Brenton Avdulla, Jewelled Crown shot to the front about a furlong from home and then easily held out Sikka and Money Rocks. The lightly raced three-year-old relished the step up to a mile today and should be further suited as the distances increase into the future as she continues to mature. "It was certainly the case today," Cummings said. "She went much better today over the mile." "The blinkers helped to focus her and it all worked out very well," the legendary horseman added. "Patience has been the way to go. She's going to get better and better I think particularly over a bit of ground." Jewelled Crown was purchased by Cummings for $120,000 from the draft of Caithness Breeding at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Former Melbourne based apprentice Brenton Avdulla rode the filly confidently and she responded well over the concluding stages under the claimer. "We had a beautiful run," Avdulla said. "I thought we'd be a bit further back than we were - but she jumped well and put herself there." "Coming around the corner we were able to poke through and then come out - we hit the front early which I didn't really want, but I was just going too good and she did a good job." Jewelled Crown, by Elvstroem, is the second winner from three to race for the unraced Anabaa mare Cadillac. A daughter of the Group One Victoria Oaks winner Taj Eclipse, Cadillac is therefore a half sister to the dams of the stakes winners Antidotes, Limerick and Dane Belltar. The latest yearling from Cadillac, a bay colt by Bel Mer and Black Caviar's sire Bel Esprit, will kick away proceedings for March's Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. The Caithness Breeding youngster is catalogued as lot 1 and he is sure to have the early buyers at the sale excited. "He's a lovely colt who is sure to have plenty of admirers," Magic Millions South Australian and Victorian Manager Tim Brown said. "He's got good size and strength - a real chip off the block - a really nice colt by Bel Esprit." "You would describe him as a typical Magic Millions style youngster. He looks a real runner." The October 2008 foaling is Super VOBIS qualified. The catalogue for the 2010 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale is now online and can be accessed via the homepage of the Magic Millions website.
