Pure white filly The Opera House has made a sound debut at Newcastle finishing fifth in the opening race on the Boxing Day program.

Trained by Kris Lees, the three-year-old won the start but was quickly outpaced and settled sixth on the fence in the 1400 metre race.

She made steady ground in the straight without threatening and finished fifth to favourite Brother Patrick.

The Opera House is raced by flamboyant businessman John Singleton and former champion rugby league player Andrew Johns and was bought for $270,000 at the Magic Millions sale.

By renowned sire of stayers Zabeel out of Carmina Burana, The Opera House is superbly bred being a three-quarter sister to champion Might And Power.

She is one of just 17 white thoroughbreds registered with the Australian Stud Book.
