The future of champion grey Racing To Win will not be known for at least six months as he is given time to recover from a tendon injury suffered in Hong Kong earlier this month.

Racing To Win, who beat just one runner home in the Group One Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin on December 13, returned to Australia during the week and will be stationed at the Sandown quarantine facility for two weeks.

Trainer John O'Shea is under no illusions that the multiple Group One winner's career is very much at the crossroads.

"He's done a near-hind tendon after being galloped on in the race. It's a traumatic injury and it obviously puts his career in jeopardy," O'Shea said.

"Vets recommended he has six months off, so we'll give him six months and if he's ready we'll put him into work and go from there, we won't really know until then."

O'Shea said the seven-year-old was in great spirits upon arrival in Australia.

"The horse is terrific, he did so well with the trip and apart from the tendon he looks like he's ready to go back to work," O'Shea said.

"It's very disappointing, he had a great run in transit and at the time we couldn't work out what happened but now we know."
