Three Bridges Thoroughbreds boasts a well earned reputation for producing outstanding sales ring yearlings - holding the record for the highest priced Melbourne Premier graduate ($750,000) and frequently boasting the distinction of the most successful vendor at those sales.
This year they present a small but select Magic Millions draft - four beautifully bred yearlings who are a must to inspect. First through the ring is lot 42, a stunning filly by the outstanding Storm Cat stallion Tale Of The Cat whose latest star Trusting acquitted himself so well over the spring carnival. A mid-August foaled, BOBS eligible yearling, she is the second foal produced by Angel Heart - an unraced mare by the legendary Sadler's Wells whose daughters have produced no less than 201 stakes winners including 36 Gr.1 winners! Angel Heart is a half sister to the freakish dual Gr.1 winner Celtic Swing - winner of the Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy by 12 lengths and the Gr.1 French Derby. And of course best known in this part of the world as sire of the superstar sprinter Takeover Target. This is a family of European racing royalty, this excellent dual purpose filly also able to count amongst her relations the Gr.1 winners Ragstone, Moon Madness, Sheriff's Star, Michelozzo, Pavillon and Velodrome.Boasting three crosses of the mighty Northern Dancer, this filly is a descendant of the influential matriarch Schiaparelli - also ancestress of the champion stallion Last Tycoon. "She is a very classy filly," said Three Bridges' Peter Liston. "She has great balance and a lovely temeperament." Next up for Three Bridges is lot 82, a handsome bay colt by Redoute's Choice's Gr.1 Oakleigh Plate winner Snitzel. A young stallion who has made a particularly strong start to his stud career, he has been represented by recent two-year-old winners Intertidal, Chance Bye, Bouzy Rouge and One More Grand - four winners from his first seven starters!
Line-bred to two of Northern Dancer's finest sons Danzig and Nijinsky II, this colt is the second foal of the well related Anabaa mare Bergman. She is a daughter of the versatile Listed winner Midnight Sun, half sister to the dual Group winning sprinter Scandanavia - dam of the Gr.1 speedster Magnus, the Gr.2 flyer Wilander and grandam of the unbeaten Black Caviar.
"He is a lovely mover," said Liston, "a really athletic type." What a great run Danehill's great son Fastnet Rock is enjoying - six stakes winners his first crop including the terrific Gr.1 filly Irish Lights. Lot 180 is one of his sons out of the imported mare Diamond de Triano, a two times winning half sister to the champion Rodrigo de Triano - five times Gr.1 winner. Also a half sister to the stakes winners Modigliani and Peak Of Perfection, this colt can also claim amongst his relations local success story Snippets. And he has a pedigree to make pedigree enthusiasts drool - a lovely 4 X 5 cross of the terrific mare Crimson Saint. The very same Fastnet Rock/Storm Cat cross on which Irish Lights is bred. Meanwhile there is plenty of speed in his dam sire Forest Wildcat whose son Wildcat Heir recently broke the northern hemisphere record for the number of two-year-old winners in one season - a remarkable 39. "He is a precocious two-year-old type," Liston enthused, "a stunning colt!" Bringing together the two most influential stallions of recent times in Australia is lot 536 a son of the Golden Slipper winning Redoute's Choice stallion Stratum and the city winning Encosta de Lago mare Riolago - half sister to the Gr.1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive and the Listed winner Fleischer, dam of the stakes winner Roubechon.
