 Promising stayer Eraset made it three wins on end by winning the Essendon Chrysler Handicap at Moonee Valley tonight.
Ridden again by Damien Oliver, who was aboard for Eraset's last win at Sandown, the Reset gelding looked to have a task in front of him when the leader Flash Madica skipped clear on the home turn. When Flash Madica started to weaken over the concluding stages, Oliver's patience paid dividends as Eraset put in a strong finishing burst to win. At the post, Eraset ($3.80-$4.80) had three quarters of a length to spare from the fast finishing Tio Rossa ($6.00-$7.00) which beat Flash Madica ($9.00-$9.50-$9.00) by a nose into third place. "I was a bit concerned because the leader kicked right away from me but I hadn't spent anything in the run so I had a good kick left", Oliver said. "He was a bit hot before the race today so I was a bit concerned but barrier 1 really helped today because I could put him asleep and he relaxed well and it really taught him something going through the field today." Gerard Tesarero, stable representative for Eraset's trainer Danny O'Brien was impressed with the win.
"A very good ride from Damien who was very patient", he said. "The horse is going along nicely just stepping up through his grades and you can't ask any more of him."  "He still does a lot wrong."
After Eraset's win at Sandown over 1600m the temptation was for the stable to step him up in distance for his next start. Oliver counselled otherwise however, recommending that he have another run over 1600 metres while learning his craft as a racehorse. Tesarero was undecided as to whether Eraset would have another run this preparation or go for a spell. "We were thinking maybe tonight will his last run but we'll see how he pulls up", he said. "If he comes through it again maybe we'll give him one more at 2000 and maybe give him a little freshen up after that." Oliver is convinced that Eraset is a good horse in the making.
"He's still doing a bit wrong as you could see when he got off the bit he was zig zagging all over the place." "He's still learning but he's progressing nicely."
