A love affair with the horse
nurtured as a boy on his father’s farm at Trundle in western NSW became
a lifestyle when forty years ago Brian Russell took over the breeding
section of the now defunct stock journal the NSW Country Life.
This was followed by a stint
with Racetrack magazine before he established the monthly national
breeding publication the Australian Bloodhorse Review. Although he is no
longer an owner of the Review, Brian is a major contributor to its
columns and also compiles a weekly review reflecting on the bloodlines
that produced recent winners.
Through his 40 years of
commenting on breeding he has visited studs in Victoria, South
Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania and has had such
widespread respect in the industry
that he has been honoured with awards from
both the New South Wales Breeders’ Association and the Hunter Valley
Breeders’ Association.
