Thoroughbred empire Patinack Farm has appointed Peter Beer as its chief executive.

A former financial executive with 22 years experience in the private and public companies of Kerry Packer, Beer has devoted the past six years to private investment interests.

Beer was employed by Consolidated Press Holdings Limited Group in various management and key strategic positions from January 1981 to September 2003.

They included three years as chief financial officer of the ASX-listed investment arm and eight years overseas as chief executive and director of the international group.

In 1998 Beer was also appointed chief executive and director of the international arm of Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd.

In addition Beer has held a lifetime interest and involvement in the thoroughbred industry both locally and overseas.

"The appointment of Peter as CEO is another step in our pursuit of creating the leading commercial thoroughbred organisation in the country," Patinack chairman Nathan Tinkler said.

"I am personally committed to having only the highest quality staff to ensure the success of Patinack and Peter is a very welcome addition to the team.

"Peter's commercial expertise and keen interest in the industry will ensure Patinack is operated in the most commercial manner and with our horses continuously competing at the top level, the future looks very bright indeed for Patinack Farm."

Tinkler, who made his money in the mining industry, has invested millions of dollars since 2007 in establishing the Patinack Farm racing and breeding interests.

Beer said he was excited to be joining Patinack.

"The results Nathan and his team have achieved in a short space of time are nothing short of phenomenal and I look forward to playing a part in future successes at Patinack," he said.
