Race 1 – CLASS B HCP - 1300 metres:
As C Maloney (a) was to be overweight M Abe (a) was permitted to replace him as the rider of GOING STAG. Stewards reprimanded C Maloney (a) for accepting rides for which he was subsequently overweight (AR120(b)).
At the entrance to the straight CHEESECAKE had difficulty obtaining a clear run between ALLSPENT and the weakening GOING STAG.

Race 2 – CLASS B HCP - 1300 metres:
B Merrall trainer of SAVNECT advised stewards he would instruct the rider to ride the gelding where it feels comfortable rather than ease back as it had been ridden previously.
In the straight SAVNECT had a tendency to lay in.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into an incident which occurred after the winning post involving B Davis (a) rider of MATABELE.

Race 3 – SPEC COND S/W - 1500 metres:
As C Maloney (a) was to be overweight and there were no other apprentice riders P Denton was permitted to replace him as the rider of KING OF IRELAND.
At the entrance to the straight VIDAL was tightened for room between LEICA CUMNOCK, which rolled out, and GUNNEL.
Mr B Merrall, trainer of KING OF IRELAND notified the stewards that in his opinion the gelding appreciated being able to roll along in front without any pressure today. At its previous start although he had instructed the rider to stride along early on that occasion KING OF IRELAND got back in the field and appeared not to appreciate the sand being thrown back.

Race 4 – OPEN HCP - 1100 metres:
B Merrall trainer of CALIGULA advised stewards he would instruct the rider to ride the gelding back in the field rather than in the lead where it normally races.
On jumping away CALIGULA knuckled and MOOKTA’S REWARD was slow to begin.
Approaching the winning post COOKE STREET (NZ) had to be checked when tightened for room by GALVESTON STORM (S Hillebrand (a)) which shifted in. S Hillebrand (a) was severely reprimanded and notified that in future he must stop riding and straighten his mount unless he is 2 lengths clear of other runners. In deciding not to charge S Hillebrand (a) with careless riding stewards took into account his relative inexperience.
1st CALIGULA 2nd BEAU MASTER 3rd MOOKTA’S REWARD
Race 5 – CLASS 4 HCP - 1100 metres:
As there were no replacement riders C Maloney (a) was permitted to ride SALTWATER WINE 1kg overweight.
On jumping away SALTWATER WINE shifted in and tightened REGATTA in onto LUSKIN DREAMS and ALTO EGO.
Near the 800 metres LUSKIN DREAMS was eased off the heels of REGATTA which was taken in by SALTWATER WINE. When being eased LUSKIN DREAMS got its head up which accentuated the interference.
Near the 700 metres REGATTA had to be eased when tightened slightly by SALTWATER WINE.
On the home turn HIGHER SCORE had to be eased off the heels of RANKS when disappointed for a run on the inside of that gelding.
In the straight DORTMUNDER had a tendency to lay in which prevented P Shiers from riding it out in his normal manner.
Near the 100 metres DORTMUNDER rolled in resulting in the weakening ALTO EGO having to be eased
The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected REGATTA subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding had lost a near fore plate and was slightly lame.

Race 6 – CLASS 2 HCP - 1200 metres:
Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of RADIANT SOCIETY was fined $50 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR140(a))
When the gates opened NASH STREET jumped away awkwardly and lost ground and SPRUIK was slow to begin

Post-race samples: All winners were swabbed
