Stewards questioned D Bates, trainer of HOWDY KEN which was a late scratching at 10.55 am this morning. After cooling down, which was after the 8.30 am scratching time he believed that although HOWDY KEN was not lame, the hoof was not 100 percent and that HOWDY KEN would not perform at its best, therefore should be scratched. Stewards accepted the explanation given by Mr Bates, however notified him that in future he should ensure he is satisfied of his horses fitness and condition prior to the 8.30 am scratching time.
