Stewards completed an inquiry adjourned from the racemeeting on 3 February 2005 into B Davis (a) use of the whip on MATABELE. B Davis (a) was charged under AR137A2(a) in that when he rode MATABELE in the After 5 (div 2) Class B Hcp run at Fannie Bay that shortly after the winning post he struck that gelding forward of the shoulder with the whip. B Davis (a) was found guilty of the charge and fined the sum of $150.

As P Shiers was overweight the following rider changes were permitted;

An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for P Shiers being overweight.
When the gates opened CHILL FACTOR was slow into stride.

Race 2 – CLASS 5 hcP - 1500 metres:
Mr B Merrall, trainer of TIMES RIPE was fined $50 for failing to lodge a stable return for that gelding in accordance with NT56.
As there was an electrical storm in the vicinity of the racecourse, stewards delayed the start of this race and rescheduled the remaining races;

When the gates opened MURPHY’S PRIZE was slow to begin.
Near the 1100 metres CHIGWIDDEN clipped the heels of LEICA CUMNOCK which when overracing rolled in when tightened by KING OF IRELAND.

Race 3 – 3YO MAIDEN S/W - 1200 metres:
Mr B Merrall, trainer of DRAPER was fined $50 for failing to lodge a stable return for that gelding in accordance with NT56.
Mr B Merrall, trainer of DRAPER was questioned regarding the transfer of ownership of this filly. Mr Merrall indicated that he had purchased the filly some 6 months ago from the foreman of the fillies’ previous trainer. Further that he had only recently received the document of description and today when he brought it in to do a transfer of ownership he realised that the previous owners had not signed out. The previous owner contacted the stewards prior to the running of the race confirming that he had sold DRAPER to Mr Merrall. Acting on this assurance stewards permitted it to start.
An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for GOODONYA ZIGGY being nominated when a stable return had not been lodged in accordance with NT56.
On jumping away POLAND was tightened between EMBOSSED and JARNEE.
Shortly after the start RED BOSS bumped BLIX and knuckled.
Some strides after the start DRAPER shifted out and bumped LEGS ELEVEN.
In the straight RATTLETRAP had a tendency to lay in.

Race 4 – OPEN HCP - 1200 metres:
When the gates opened ACELA bounded in the air and lost ground.
Shortly after jumping away GUNNEL shifted in onto GALVESTON STORM taking that gelding in onto MOOKTA’S REWARD which then became unbalanced.
Near the 200 metres S Hillebrand, rider of ACELA dropped his whip.

Race 5 – CLASS B HCP - 1500 metres:
Acting on veterinary advice that EYE EYE SIR had swelling around it’s tendon stewards ordered the withdrawal of EYE EYE SIR at 5.15pm.
As C Maloney (a) was to be overweight, stewards permitted B Davis (a) to replace him as the rider of CHEESECAKE. C Maloney (a) was fined $100 for accepting rides for which he was subsequently overweight (AR120(b)).
Near the 600 metres and 500 metres STORMY LANDING had difficulty obtaining a clear run.

Race 6 – CLASS 3 HCP - 1300 metres:
Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of RADIANT SOCIETY for presenting that gelding without it’s approved gear (tongue tie) (AR140(a)).
When the gates opened RADIANT SOCIETY stumbled and almost dislodged its rider M Abe (a).
During the event WASN’T IT GOOD lost a hind plate and suffered minor lacerations to its hind legs.
Stewards questioned P Denton, rider of PICAYUNE which performed below expectations. P Denton stated that the gelding began only fairly and then raced up well until near the 600 metres at which stage he eased out slightly as he had some difficulty seeing due to the sun. From that stage onwards PICAYUNE failed to improve. Further that the gelding appeared normal in its action and appeared to pull up alright.
