P Denton, rider of MILESTONES, which performed below expectations stated that the gelding failed to improve from the 600 metres when the field accelerated and further than that he could offer no explanation for its poor performance. Ms L Williams, trainer of MILESTONES stated that the gelding may be feeling the heat and that she intended to give it a short spell and freshen it up before starting it again.
Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected MILESTONES and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. A swab sample was taken from MILESTONES.
Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that NASH STREET had blood in its offside nostril.
Mr D Bates trainer of NASH STREET was fined $50 for presenting that gelding without pacifiers when it is approved to race in that gear (AR140(a)).

On jumping away LORD BALMAIN shifted in onto CALABRIA.
Rounding the turn near the 650 metres CALABRIA had a tendency to hang out.
Rounding the turn BELLO DIVISTA was disappointed for a clear run for some distance when attempting to improve on the inside of DANCE CALL which rolled in on several occasions.
