P Shiers stated that he had the flu this week and that hindered his effects to lose weight. P Shiers was notified that if he was to be overweight in the future he may be penalised.
On jumping away EARTH GOLD and TAFFETA’S BEST came together.
Near the 1000 metres TAFFETA’S BEST was tightened for room by EARTH GOLD (P Denton) which shifted in. P Shiers, rider of TAFFETA’S BEST stated that he elected to restrain his mount as he did not have the pace to be up in the lead. Stewards accepted the evidence however notified P Denton that he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear when shifting ground in future

When the gates opened SPAKATAK bounded and then threw its head up. It was then bumped by BEANIE which shifted in. After this it took some strides for SPAKATAK to muster speed.

After being placed in the barriers CALMER KARMA reared and became caught in the barriers. Acting on veterinary advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of CALMER KARMA at 3.28pm. Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on CALMER KARMA to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of CALMER KARMA to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 27 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 25 cents in the dollar.
Near the 100 metres GOLD HAWK shifted out and bumped MURPHY’S PRIZE which was taking a tight run on it’s outside. When bumped, the saddle on MURPHY’S PRIZE slipped.
Shortly after the winning post S Hillebrand (a) was dislodged from MURPHY’S PRIZE due to his saddle shifting.
Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected VOLCANIC PEARL which performed poorly and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

Rounding the turn SIR ACADEMY had a tendency to lay out.
Over the concluding stages LEICA CUMNOCK hung in badly and appeared to resent the whip.

When the gates opened OUR CAMBIDA was slow into stride.
Rounding the first turn LOADED VICE (NZ) and CHEQUE ATTACK, which were racing tightly rolled in and tightened ALTO EGO which resulted in ALTO EGO being checked. Stewards took into account that CHEQUE ATTACK had shifted in prior to the interference however as they commenced the turn CHEQUE ATTACK may have received pressure from LOADED VICE (NZ) resulting in it shifting in across the running of ALTO EGO.
After considering all the circumstances, stewards reprimanded B Davis (a), rider of CHEQUE ATTACK and notified him that in future he must ensure he is two lengths clear prior to shifting ground.
In the latter part of the home turn MANDATE was held up for a clear run on the inside of CHEQUE ATTACK which was racing tight on the inside of LOADED VICE (NZ). In the straight LOADED VICE (NZ) had a tendency to lay in and in doing so shifted in across the running of CHEQUE ATTACK and then bumped MANDATE.

From the 650 metres to the home turn LOADED VICE (NZ) and TOP SQUIRE bumped on several occasions trying to take the same run between ALTO EGO and CRAZY FITZ.
The club veterinary surgeon inspected NOT THIS TIME (NZ) on arrival at the course and notified stewards that the gelding was not fit to start. Acting on his advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of NOT THIS TIME (NZ) at 3.16pm.
Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on NOT THIS TIME (NZ) to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of NOT THIS TIME (NZ) to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 4 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 6 cents in the dollar.
Stewards interviewed Mr Wayne Beaumont, acting stable foreman for trainer Mr S Brown about the circumstances involving the late scratching of NOT THIS TIME (NZ). Mr Beaumont said that the first he noticed something was wrong was when the horse refused to walk out of the truck on arrival at the course. He sought veterinary advice which was then conveyed to stewards. Stewards reminded Mr Beaumont of AR140(a) which requires trainers to report any condition or occurrence that may affect the running of a horse in a race to the stewards as soon as practicable. Stewards advised Mr Beaumont that although no action would be taken today however any further infraction of this rule would result in a penalty being imposed.

As there were no other riders available, stewards permitted J Hallam to ride AUTRICITY at 1kg overweight.
Just after the start AURICITY and SUGAR SHOT bumped.
At about the 250 metres P Shiers, rider of STAR QUEST attempted a run on the inside of AUTRICITY. As the run closed quickly P Shiers took hold and ran to the outside losing considerable ground.

S Ridler, rider of LOTTA RAIN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a). The careless riding being that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MISS TALITHA thereby taking that filly in onto BLIX. As a result MISS TALITHA had to be checked and BLIX was hampered. S Ridler was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Thursday 18th November, 2004.

Mrs E Brown, representing Mr S Brown, trainer of BARRY which performed poorly notified the stewards that BARRY had been feeling the effects of the recent hot weather and she believed this was the reason for its poor performance, further that the horse would be going south for a spell. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected BARRY subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. A routine swab sample was taken.

RACE EIGHT SPEC COND HCP – 12OO M
Mr S Clarke, trainer of ENTITLEMENT which is approved to race in blinkers and pacifiers presented the gelding in blinkers only. Mr Clarke stated that he did not have a set of blinker/pacifiers and was unable to borrow a set. Stewards permitted ENTITLEMENT to race without the pacifiers and notified Mr Clarke that the gelding would not be permitted to race with pacifiers at its next start and fined Mr Clarke $50 (AR140(a)).
On jumping away AMBER STYLE shifted out and GALVESTON STORM shifted in resulting in ACELA and ENTITLEMENT being tightened for room.
Near the 1000 metres ACELA and ENTITLEMENT were tightened for room by GALVESTON STORM (S Hillebrand (a)) which shifted in. As a result ACELA had to be checked and ENTITLEMENT had to be eased and lost ground. S Hillebrand (a) was severely reprimanded for shifting in when not sufficiently clear. Stewards took into account S Hillebrand (a) inexperience in that he has only had a small number of rides however notified him that in future he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground or he may face a charge of careless riding.

On jumping away SALTWATER WINE jumped in and bumped MURPHY’S PRIZE.
At the entrance to the straight BARRY had to be eased over the heels of SALTWATER WINE to obtain a clear run.
In the straight BARRY had a tendency to lay in.
J Hallam rider of MURPHY’S PRIZE notified the stewards prior to the race that he intended to attempt to ride the gelding back in the field and see if it could finish on. Subsequent to the event J Hallam stated that MURPHY’S PRIZE never travelled well in the race and performed poorly.

The club veterinary surgeon inspected TRAFFORD (NZ) on arrival at the course and notified the stewards that the gelding had tender swellings on its neck which appeared to have been the result of some type of insect bite. Acting on his advice that TRAFFORD (NZ) was not fit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of TRAFFORD (NZ) at 2.43pm.
Steward notified S Leckey (a) rider of 4th placegetter SNAP TO IT of his obligation to ride all his mounts out to the end of the race.

RACE FIVE OPEN HCP – 11OO M
When the gates opened AMBER STYLE, which had been restless in the barriers was slow away.
On jumping away BLUE VENTURE and GALVESTON STORM bumped and BLUE VENTURE became unbalances and stumbled.
S Brownbill, rider of ORIENTAL TREASURE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 650 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RING CYCLE thereby taking that gelding in onto PRINCE RAJA resulting in RING CYCLE and PRINCE RAJA having to be checked. GALVESTON STORM which was racing behind PRINCE RAJA had to be checked off its heels as a consequence.
The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected GALVESTON STORM subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg. Also that PRINCE RAJA had been galloped on both hind legs.

Ms R Thompson, trainer of KISSING DOWN was notified that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required before the gelding raced again (AR8(t)).

B Davis (a) stated that after beginning well and racing keenly he eased to get closer to the fence rounding the first turn and the filly dropped the bit and did not travel well from that point on. He also stated that the mare appeared to pull up alright. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected OURALASSI subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. Ms L Williams, trainer of OURALASSI was notified that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required before the gelding raced again (AR8(t)).

In the early stages of the race OUR CAMBIDA raced erratically and threw its head up on a number of occasions. As a result it shifted in onto SAVNECT near the 1000 metres.
Near the 650 metres SAVNECT layed out and bumped OUR CAMBIDA.
D Leech, trainer of BEL DE FERRO was fined $20 for using club colours. Mr Leech was also notified that in future he should complete his stable returns to include the correct owners.

Shortly after the start AUTRICITY shifted out and tightened DESERT REEF onto LAVA FLOW which was also taken in by BRODGAR. As a result DESERT REEF had to be checked and LAVA FLOW got its head up and raced ungenerously for some strides.

Near the 600 metres CRAZY COTTON was tightened for room and raced awkwardly for some time between THE BURCUTTER which rolled out slightly and GENERAL SWAMP. CRAZY COTTON continued to race tight between those runners until the entrance to the straight when it had to be eased.
Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected GENERAL SWAMP which performed poorly and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

When the gates opened XHAFERS ROLL bounded and ROYAL RISING jumped away awkwardly.
50 metres after the start GEIGER BLUE had to be eased off the heels of XHAFERS ROLL which shifted in slightly.
Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of ZISSI was fined $50 for the late notification of a rider for that filly NT129 (c).
P Denton, rider of COST EFFECTIVE notified the stewards that the gelding had pulled up lame in the off foreleg. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected COST EFFECTIVE subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.

Shortly after the start FOGHORN LEGHORN shifted in and took SANCAY in onto CRY MACRIST.
Near the 1000 metres PRUNINGS had to be eased off the heels of PICAYUNE which shifted in.

When the gates opened BABOUCHKE jumped away awkwardly and in so doing shifted in taking TRAFFORD (NZ) in onto IRISH INTRIGUE hampering that gelding.
The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected IRISH INTRIGUE subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.
Mr K Sweeney, trainer of IRISH INTRIGUE was fined $100 for negligence in the saddling of that gelding in that it was presented with the incorrect saddlecloth number (AR140(a)).

P Shiers, rider of TIGER OF OLD was given permission to ride 1 kg overweight. In making that decision, stewards took into account the horse’s previous untractable behaviour and that there were no senior riders available at that time to replace him. .
When the gates opened FETTLE was slow into stride.
Near the 650 metres PICADOR was tightened for room by RUBYRULE which had a tendency to lay in. PICADOR also had a tendency to lay out onto RUBYRULE. As a result PICADOR had to checked over the heels of RUBYRULE and lost considerable ground. Subsequent to the event J Hallam, rider of PICADOR reported that the gelding was rough in its action in the straight.
During the event TIGER OF OLD suffered an attack of bleeding

As P Shiers was to be overweight stewards permitted the following rider changes:-

P Shiers stated that he had followed his normal routine leading up to raceday, however for some reason he was unable to shed enough weight today. Stewards accepted the explanations of P Shiers who had not been replaced due to being overweight for some considerable time. However he was notified that if he was overweight in the near future he may be penalised.
Near the 200 metres LUNGU rolled in for a short distance and tightened PITMAN.
Stewards questioned Ms K Petrick, trainer of PITMAN regarding that gelding’s improved performance today. She stated that the geldings’ previous runs were better than appears on paper and that prior to its last run it had a track fall which may have effected its performance on that day. Further that she felt her other runner ROCKHOUND was not a genuine chance due to its big weight.
Ms K Petrick, trainer of LATENT was fined $50 for nominating that gelding for this event when ineligible (AR64 (1)).

When the gates opened POP’S TAURUS, which was restless in the barriers was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres SHADOW BOXER was tightened for room by GEODUDE. When tightened, SHADOW BOXER got its head up, raced ungenerously and shifted out. As a result it had to be checked.
Rounding the turn near the 600 metres SHADOW BOXER layed out as did SKIING which had to be checked off the heels of POP’S TAURUS as a consequence.
On the home turn SHADOW BOXER rolled out and bumped AMBERLIGHT on the hindquarters. For some distance in the straight SHADOW BOXER and AMBERLIGHT bumped and as a result near the 200 metres AMBERLIGHT had to be eased.

At the start FIRE JOE jumped outwards.
Stewards questioned C Moon regarding his riding tactics on the winner of the event DUBAI FLYER. C Moon stated that DUBAI FLYER stated that DUBAI FLYER normally races back in the field however over the 1600 metres he had been instructed to attempt to get a place in the middle of the field. However after jumping from barrier 12 when he attempted to get a position the other runners eased and he elected to go to the front and take advantage of the slow pace.
DUBAI FLYER was swabbed.

Near the 1000metres ARNSIDE (J Hallam) shifted in and as a result ORIENTAL TREASURE, AL TAYAR and BLUE VENTURE which were already racing tight were tightened for room, as a consequence ORIENTAL TREASURE was unbalanced as was BLUE VENTURE and AL TAYAR had to be eased. J Hallam was severely reprimanded and notified that in future he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground.
Rounding the turn near the 650 metres GAMERA had a tendency to lay out.
AL TAYAR and BLUE VENTURE were swabbed.

When the gates opened KELAMAM was slow to begin.
Near the 1400 metres FURNISH was tightened for room and had to be checked when BATHERS shifted in on a number of occasions. S Ridler, rider of BATHERS stated that he did his utmost to stay out however the horse had its tongue over the bit and did not respond when he tried to come out and give FURNISH more room. Stewards accepted the explanation of S Ridler and took no further action.
C Moon, rider of CAPO DEL OPO was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a). The careless riding being that near the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of OLD SWAMPY which caused OLD SWAMPY to be checked off its heels. C Moon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 31 July 2004 (2 meetings) and fined $250.
